Dez Bryant hasn’t put his name into the media circus for the majority of the 2019 NFL season. However, he did so this week with the announcement that he plans to pursue another late-season comeback. It seems that he will begin trying to make his comeback at some point in the next couple of weeks.
While Bryant was one of the league’s top stars at the wide receiver position just a few short years ago, he is no longer in high demand. His personality and declining statistics have scared quite a few potential suitors off. Despite those issues, there are a few teams who could make sense as landing spots for Bryant.
All of that being said, let’s take a look at three teams in particular who should strongly consider giving Bryant another chance in the NFL.
3. Baltimore Ravens
Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens are one team to keep an eye on with Bryant if he does intend to make his return this season. They could use a bit more firepower on offense and a veteran weapon like Bryant, especially with a chip on his shoulder, would make a lot of sense.
Bryant may not be a superstar anymore, but he could be a solid No. 2 or No. 3 receiver if he can come back at 100 percent health. In addition to his role on the field, Bryant might be the kind of player that can help mentor Marquise “Hollywood” Brown. Either way, this is worth a shot.
2. New England Patriots
Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots are always a team that comes to mind when a veteran with a questionable past come available. Just in the last two years, the Patriots have taken gambles on both Josh Gordon and Antonio Brown. Neither of those wide receivers are still on the roster, but the Patriots aren’t scared to take chances.
Bryant wouldn’t be heading into New England as a top target for Tom Brady. He wouldn’t even be expected to make an immediate impact. Instead, he could come back slowly from his injury and target making an impact for the Patriots come playoff time.
1. New Orleans Saints
Finally, there is one team that makes perfect sense at the top of the potential suitor list for Dez Bryant’s services. That team would be the New Orleans Saints, who signed him last season. Unfortunately, soon after signing with the team, Bryant suffered a torn Achilles that ended his campaign.
Sean Payton and company were very open about liking what they saw from Bryant. New Orleans has had interest in adding another wide receiver alongside Michael Thomas and Bryant is already familiar with the playbook and most of his would-be teammates. This situation would be ideal for Bryant.
